The current COVID-19 pandemic means that it is critical that we take every precaution possible. We must prevent this virus from entering our care home and protecting our residents’ health and safety is our top priority. Experts are recommending we suspend individuals that are non-essential to patient care from entering our building and to ensure sick employees stay home.

At this time, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continue to recommend restrictions on visitation in all long-term care settings. Therefore, the federal and state directive to restrict visitation at nursing facilities and assisted living communities remains active. We continue to follow stringent infection control protocols and guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a virus which poses serious health risks to the frail and elderly population.

We understand the challenges of not being able to physically visit your loved one or friend, but encourage you to use other forms of communication via phone, text, FaceTime, etc. Right now, these interventions are needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our vulnerable residents. Please know that we want to keep your loved ones safe and will keep you informed with any changes. We will continue to find ways to help you have meaningful interactions with your loved one. Assisted Living is a long-term care option for individuals who require supervision or assistance with one or more Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). ADLs include, but are not limited to: bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, eating, medication management and administration, walking, toileting, and continence management. Pebble Heights Assisted Living & Memory Care is an assisted living and memory care ‘Residential Care Home’. This means assisted living and memory care services are provided in a residential, intimate, home-like environment.

Pebble Heights Assisted Living has a capacity of 10 residents, which allows our licensed and certified care staff to provide more individualized attention and care to each resident, given that the resident to care staff ratio is much higher and the care is more personal. Most often, there is one caregiver for every five or four residents. For the individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other kinds of dementias, our small residential care homes are ideal.

Compared to larger assisted living and memory care communities, we have fewer people our residents have to deal with, our number of staff is smaller and more consistent, and we offer close supervision and personal, as well as directed-level of care support for our residents. Our smaller home environment can lower anxiety and stress for those who might be intimidated or overstimulated by larger communities. Pebble Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care offers a variety of living space options (shared and private room environments) in a quiet, gated, and upscale neighborhood located in the southwest Phoenix valley: Pebble Heights, Goodyear, Arizona.

Given that we are licensed for the highest level of care referred to as directed level with the Arizona Department of Health Services, we are able to assist with more personal and hands-on, acute care needs. We are licensed through the Arizona Department of Health Services as a residential assisted living home licensed for a maximum of 10 residents, for directed level of care. We are also bonded and insured.

Yes – we call it “respite care,” and it is designed for seniors who need assisted living services just for a short time. Respite care can be of great benefit while you or a loved one recover from an illness or injury. It can provide a caregiver a deserved break. But it can also be a way for you or a loved one to test the water of assisted living without having to commit to living there permanently. The person can meet staff and other residents, try out the meals and activities and get a good idea of what assisted living is really like.

We work with each family to support their needs as best we can, including accommodating urgent admissions. Prospective residents receive a full care assessment prior to moving in, which helps our care team develop an individualized care plan. In some cases, a new admission can occur in as little as a few hours.

To be in compliance with the Arizona Department of Health Services, we require all prospects to complete our admission application/paperwork, provide us with a detailed history of medical and physical needs, including admitting orders/care treatments/medication prescriptions (prescribed and over-the-counter medications such as vitamins, etc.) by a licensed healthcare provider prior to admission.

Additionally, each resident is screened for tuberculosis and COVID-19 signs and symptoms by their physician or healthcare provider, and the results are submitted to us, at Pebble Heights Assisted Living & Memory Care to add to each resident’s medical record/designated file.

Unfortunately, Medicare doesn’t help finance assisted living. Medicare only covers short term, non-custodial care needs.

Cost varies greatly in the senior care industry, depending on a variety of factors such as: the specific level of care assistance required by each individual, if the resident would like to share a room or would like a private room with shared bathroom, or private room with private bathroom. The best way to understand your costs is by contacting us so that we can address your specific questions, which will provide you and us with a better understanding regarding your loved one’s specific care needs.

Assisted living care is typically paid for from:

• The private funds of the residents and/or their families (social security, pension, annuities, investments, stocks, bonds, liquidation of assets such as personal residential home, car, collection items, etc.).
• Some private long-term care insurance policies (i.e. Genworth Financial, New York Life, Mutual of Omaha, TransAmerica Financial, etc.) cover the cost of licensed assisted living and care.
• War veterans or spouses of a war veteran might qualify for Veteran’s Benefits (The VA Aid and Attendance Program) which can be used to help pay for assisted living care.

As with most assisted living providers, Pebble Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care charges a basic month-to-month room, board, and care rate which covers all basic living expenses such as rent, utilities, and food. It also covers 24-hour supervision and assistance with daily needs, housekeeping, health monitoring services, and social activities. Pebble Heights Assisted Living Care is less expensive than in-home health care services or nursing home care in Phoenix and the surrounding areas. A cost for a live-in caregiver can range from $300 to $500 a day or $9,000 - $15,000 a month.

Yes. We offer a wide-range of care services and have specially trained dementia-care staff that can provide compassionate, highly personalized care in an intimate, secured, and structured environment.

For health purposes, the resident is responsible for transportation to and from appointments as needed if their physician of choice does not make scheduled visits to Pebble Heights Assisted Living & Memory Care. If the resident’s family is unable to provide this transportation, our staff can assist in arranging non-emergency medical transportation for appointments, and the cost will be the responsibility of the resident/family. The fees associated with these transportation services will be billed directly by the transportation provider to the family.

We don’t allow pets to live at Pebble Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care, however we welcome currently vaccinated pets to visit, pending proof of current vaccinations. Occasionally, we have therapy pets that come in to visit with residents who are interested. Pet visits are always a highlight for staff and residents alike.

You may be eligible for certain deductions on your federal tax return depending on the types of services and the level of care you or your loved one requires. Speak with your financial advisor or personal accountant for additional information.

All of our residents are given an emergency alert pendant to wear. Additionally, given that our home is an intimate and small environment, our caregivers are continuously checking in on our residents to ensure safety and peace of mind. Staff members are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to respond and offer immediate assistance and/or call emergency services, if needed. The designated healthcare/medical Power of Attorney (POA) and family members will be informed promptly in the event of an emergency or concern, as we like to ensure an open form of communication at all times for safety and peace of mind.

Our residents can enjoy the warm company of friends and house-mates when they want to, and relax in the privacy of their own rooms whenever they prefer. With the exception of some rooms that are shared, we have a few private rooms with private bathrooms, as well.

• We recommend at least 7-10 complete outfits. Appropriate clothing is usually considered to be slacks, shirts or tops, dresses, sweatsuits, sweater, nightgown/sleepwear, and undergarments. Shoes or slippers should have non-slip soles.
• As a general rule, clothing should be roomy and have large enough openings that they can be put on and removed with a minimum of stress to both the resident and the caregiver.
• Personal laundry service is provided.
• Clothing should be machine washable and dryable.
• Families should expect to assist in maintaining their loved one’s wardrobe.
